How?

Helping you find easy ways to support all kinds of causes across this community, so you can do more with your financial resources (link to Funds we Offer) - and helping connect you with the organizations doing the great work in support of the causes you care most about (link to the Nonprofit Database?).

Nonprofits

How?

Primarily through the flow of financial support from the many types of donor-supported funds that we  steward. Additionally, we help to  connect nonprofits to one another through shared causes and priorities. Through our Foundation programs - including Children’s Holiday Fund,
Give Local 757, Impact 100, and the Center for Community Research we support and build  capacity for hundreds of nonprofits with who are on the front lines serving our neighbors.

And, through the Peninsula Nonprofit Partnership, we work in concert with three other community- wide organizations (the Virginia Peninsula Chamber, the United Way of the Virginia Peninsula, and the Bernardine Franciscan Sisters Foundation) to facilitate resources, networking and
capacity building services to nonprofits.

Educational Institutions

How?

Through the 23 scholarship and educator grant funds we steward (link to Scholarships and Educator Grant Funds), funding that flows from donor advised funds and endowments to K-12 and post-secondary education institutions, and internships with the Foundation, and with
other nonprofits, for area college students.

Local Governments

How?

Through regular communication with leaders of all six of the municipalities we serve, we stay  apprised of major issues and needs for each, and for the Peninsula community overall. We share that information with donors who have funds with us at the Foundation, and with the nonprofits as well. We conduct research - large-scale studies, and small projects responding to emerging needs or opportunities - to help provide data to support and inform policies, programs
and development strategy.

For-Profit Businesses

How?

From crisis funds through which you can offer emergency support for your employees, to partnering to create community research to help inform your planning and giving and knowledge about needs and  opportunities across the community - we connect with corporate leaders who understand that a healthy community is the foundation of a healthy
economy.

Other Foundations

How?

We stay in touch with other community foundations across Hampton Roads and share our knowledge and experiences, and we are a member of the Virginia Funders Network and the national organization - the Council on Foundations which regularly helps keep us connected to
nationwide trends and news, and apprised of industry best practice.
