PCF took on community research because our leaders believed that research is a space in which community foundations can, and should, be leaders - to inform solutions across the communities we serve. Not only are we uniquely positioned for that work because of the “view from the balcony” perspective we were created to maintain.
Examples of the issues we have researched:
Early Childhood Development
Exploring the needs of young children and families and the importance of strong early foundations for lifelong success.
Homelessness
Examining the realities of homelessness on the Peninsula and identifying opportunities for a stronger community response.
Serving an Older Peninsula
Highlighting the needs, challenges, and opportunities facing our community as the older adult population grows over the next 25 years.
Based on the success of our earlier research and the ongoing need for that community-wide perspective, PCF created the program banner the “Center for Community Research." Under that banner we will pursue future research projects, embracing research as a priority for the Foundation moving forward, analyzing critical social issues, assessing community needs, and identifying opportunities for sustainable growth and development.

Data-Driven Decision Making
By leveraging advanced research methodologies and data analytics, the Center provides actionable insights into our region's challenges and opportunities. Our goal is to inform everyone across the Virginia Peninsula—from local residents and non-profits to civic leaders—about the critical needs affecting our region, guiding resources and partnerships toward solutions that truly improve quality of life.
Collaborative Research Partnerships
To maximize the Center's reach and influence, the Foundation establishes partnerships with academic institutions, local organizations, local governments and subject matter experts. Through a collaborative approach, the Center tackles multifaceted issues through diverse perspectives and expertise.
Addressing Critical Community Issues
In consult with our community partners, the Center identifies and prioritizes research initiatives that address key societal issues. The goal is to contribute to the development of evidence-based solutions that create a better quality of life for the Peninsula Community.
Education and Knowledge Sharing
In addition to conducting rigorous research, the Center will actively engage in education efforts and knowledge sharing through publications, workshops, and conferences. By disseminating research findings and best practices, the Center sparks meaningful dialogue and inspire positive change on a broader scale - change in which we can be an active partner.
